Is Twitter blocking some of your notifications?

Have you ever noticed getting a reply on one of your Twitter posts but not being notified about it? This commonly occurs when a reply is an emoji or a link. Did you know that this is a feature by Twitter that you can turn off to receive all your notifications? Read on and we will tell you more…

Twitter tries to give you the notifications that are the most relevant to you, and one of the ways it does this is through a quality filter. While this feature is really handy if you have a high level of interaction on your tweets which are difficult to keep up with, if you have a small business, or are trying to build relationships with as many of the people who are interacting with your updates as possible, this feature may be standing in your way. You see, when you’re building an audience, it pays to engage no matter how insignificant the reply might seem. By responding to a comment of an emoji, that person could feel more valued and connected to your brand than if the reply had simply been overlooked. Therefore the quality filter isn’t for everyone… but don’t worry! It’s simple to turn off and we’ll show you how.

How To Turn Off Twitter’s Quality Filter

On your phone:

1. Launch Twitter and select the notifications bell at the bottom of the screen.

2. Tap the settings cog in the top right-hand corner.
3. At the top of the screen is the ‘Quality filter’ section. Toggle the slider to turn off.

On your desktop:

  1. Launch Twitter and select the notifications bell on the left-hand side of the screen.
Launch Twitter and go to 'Notifications'

2. Select the settings cog in the top right-hand side of the screen.
3. In the settings menu, select ‘Notifications’, then ‘Filters’.

Settings > Notifications > Filters

4. The top filter is the ‘Quality filter’. Toggle the check box to turn the filter off.

You can turn the filter back on through the same process.

It’s always good to be able to keep on top of making your followers feel valued. By responding to as many replies as you can, however trivial they may seem, you are reinforcing how much you appreciate the engagement on your profile, which encourages more engagement on your updates… and engagement means great things for the algorithm pushing your tweets to more people.
