How to make any image or video into an Instagram sticker (the easy way)

Looking for the easiest way to make your own stickers to use on Instagram? You can now create stickers from your own photos and videos, as well as other people’s public posts, at the touch of a button on Instagram. Cutouts is a new Instagram feature that turns any image or video on your camera roll into a sticker. It cuts out the background of your favourite pictures and videos so you can decorate your Instagram Stories and Reels posts with limitless creativity.

How to create your own stickers with Cutouts

You can create stickers from media on your camera roll. Cutouts works best if you select a photo or video with one distinct object in it. Just be aware that if videos are not showing up for you while trying to create a sticker with Cutouts, not every account has access to creating stickers from videos yet.

To create your own sticker using a picture from your camera roll: 

1. Take or upload a picture or video for your Instagram story or reel.
2. Tap the stickers icon.
3. Choose ‘Cutouts’.
4. Select an image from your camera roll to make into a sticker.

5. a) Instagram will automatically cut out the focus of the image. If you’re happy with the part of the image that has been selected as the sticker choose ‘Use sticker’ in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Then skip to step 8.
   
   b) Alternatively, choose ‘Select manually’ in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen to choose a different part of the image to use as a sticker. From here you can select the parts of the image you want included in the sticker by tapping them one by one.

6. Use the arrow buttons in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen to undo and redo edits. 
7. When you have the parts of the image selected that you wish to use, choose ‘Use sticker’ in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
8. Place the sticker wherever you want on your Instagram Stories post.
9. Finish editing your post and publish it.

Stickers made from images are static and while you can make a huge amount of creative choices with pictures, if you want a sticker with movement that acts more like a GIF, a video sticker is the way to go. 

To create your own sticker using a video from your camera roll: 

1. Take or upload a picture or video for your Instagram story or reel.
2. Tap the stickers icon.
3. Choose ‘Cutouts’.
4. Select a video from your camera roll to make into a sticker.
5. Trim the video so that the clip is between 1 and 15 seconds in length by dragging the ends of the bar at the bottom of the screen.
6. When you are happy with the clip selection, tap ‘Next’ at the bottom of the screen.
7. a) Instagram will automatically cut out the focus of the video from the first frame. If you’re happy with the part of the video that has been selected as the sticker choose ‘Create sticker’ in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen. Then skip to step 10.
   
   b) Alternatively, choose ‘Select manually’ in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen to choose a different part of the video to use as a sticker. From here you can select the parts of the first frame you want included in the sticker by tapping them one by one. 

8. Use the arrow buttons in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen to undo and redo edits. 
9. When you have the parts of the video selected that you wish to use, choose ‘Create sticker’ in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
10. The sticker will flash while it is loading. Place the sticker wherever you want on your Instagram Stories post.
11. Finish editing your post and publish it.

Currently, you can only use one video sticker made with Cutouts in each story. Audio from the video is not available when it is made into a sticker.

How to find your saved stickers made with Cutouts

When you create a sticker using Cutouts, Instagram instantly saves it for you to return to and reuse at a later date. This is perfect if you use Cutouts to create branded stickers or if your content includes the same themes repeatedly.

To access your saved stickers:

1. Create a sticker with Cutouts. Instagram will instantly save it.
2. When you want to use a sticker you’ve already made, open Instagram and head to the stories or reels creation page.
3. Tap the stickers icon at the top of the screen.
4. Scroll to find ‘Your stickers’.
5. Select ‘See all’ to view all the stickers you’ve previously created with Cutouts.

How to delete a saved sticker made with Cutouts

You can delete any sticker you’ve created. It’s worth noting that any reels or stories that other people have created using the sticker will be deleted if you delete the sticker. However, reels and stories that you created with the sticker will not be deleted, you just won’t be able to access or use the sticker again.

To delete a saved sticker:

1. When creating a new reel or story, choose the stickers icon at the top of the screen.
2. Scroll to find ‘Your stickers’.
3. Select ‘See all’.
4. Tap and hold on a sticker you’ve created.
5. Press ‘Delete’.

How to create stickers from someone else’s post

If you want more options for sticker creation, you can create stickers from other people’s photo posts on Instagram but there are some important things to bear in mind if you do. You’ll only be able to create a sticker from someone else’s Instagram photo if it is shared from a public account. The owner of the image also has to have permissions enabled. Another hugely important thing to note is that if you create a sticker with Cutouts using someone else’s content, if the original creator deletes the original post that the sticker was taken from, any content you’ve made using that sticker will also be deleted. Therefore, it’s best to only use a sticker made from someone else’s post if you don’t mind losing the content you put it on.

To create a sticker from someone else’s post:

1. Find the picture you want to make a sticker out of.
2. Tap the three dots in the top right-hand corner of the post.
3. Choose ‘Create a cutout sticker’.
