How to capitalise on Christmas spending with TikTok

Christmas is all about celebrating, spending time with your loved ones, sharing gifts and… spending money! Yes, that’s right. People are primed each year to drop some serious dough around the holiday season. That’s why you see big brands chucking the big bucks at Christmas adverts each winter. The general public is expecting to splash the cash and every business wants to get in on the action.

If you’re looking to increase your sales this festive season, TikTok is the gift that keeps on giving. TikTok sales ballooned a staggering amount in the last couple of years, driven by the expansion of TikTok Shop and features like LIVE shopping. Sales on TikTok grew more than 500 percent in the US in 2024 and doubled in the first half of 2025. Now that we’re welcoming snowy season, you’d be elfing mad to ignore it.

Let’s brush off the icicles and go through this nice list of 5 top tips to warm up your audience for seasonal spending…

If a spark of inspiration is the star you’ve been trying to follow, get your Christmas content ideas flowing like mulled wine by unwrapping current trends. Finding trends doesn’t have to take a trip around the world. Sometimes it’s as easy as typing Christmas-related topics into the search bar and spotting the trending icon. Like Rudolph sniffing out the mince pies, you‘ll discover popular topics in no time.

If you want to go the extra mile, you’ll find a grotto full of trends in the TikTok Creative Center.

2. Sprinkle commission on creators

What’s better than selling your own products? Letting other trusted people sell them for you. If you’re Santa, influencers and micro-influencers can be the workshop of elves all helping you make more sales for a successful Christmas.

With TikTok Shop you can let creators earn commission from promoting your products. The top-performing post in the trending topic we discovered in the previous tip has ‘Commission paid’ stamped across it, but this stamp isn't sending a wish list to the North Pole. Instead, the Christmas cheer is passed to the creator who earns commission, the business who earns sales and the purchasers who now have the first gift to stash under the tree.

3. Decorate the app with ads

You don’t need to slide down any chimneys to get people’s attention this winter. As it turns out, that’s a Santa-only thing anyway and you’d probably end up leaving in handcuffs. There’s a simpler way to go about getting noticed and you don’t have to risk burning your underpants to do it.

People who don’t have access to reindeers (or bail money) can create TikTok ads to get into people’s homes and hearts - via their phones! TikTok ads can take tappers directly to your webpage of choice. Companies like Moonpig use the holiday season to send viewers to their Christmas collections. And you don’t even need a TikTok profile to run ads; you can set up ads by creating a TikTok Ads Manager account.

4. Present your products in action

It’s all very well telling us Santa is real, but sometimes the evidence of a half-eaten biscuit is that little bit of proof that keeps the magic alive. The same can be true of the things we choose to buy; we need to see them to believe them.

Research shows that 64% of women who shop on their smartphone say that seeing images of products in context positively influences their purchasing decisions… and I know who’s buying most of the Christmas gifts in our house! Instead of telling people about how amazing a product is - show them. Let them see how perfect opening your present feels. Let them experience the joy of watching a holiday game that your product is at the centre of. Let their imagination run away with them and straight towards the checkout.

5. Add seasonal spice to text overlays

Sleigh the season by wrapping your content well, like the examples below. Using phrases like ‘Christmas Day’ and ‘viral Christmas 2025’ didn’t just slip off the dinner table and onto these TikTok videos - they were chosen. Match the text on your content with the people you want to find it. Sprinkle keywords like snow and drape them like tinsel. It’s the holiday season, baby, and you gotta cookie and milk it.
